At Socal, your privacy is of great importance to us. We understand that you entrust us with
certain private information to help us provide products and services. It is essential for us that
you understand what personal information that we collect and why.
1 Types of information we collect and what we use it for
1.1 Master data
When you create a profile on Socal we collect the following master data about you (the
"Master Data"):
- Your username
- Your password
- Your email address
1.2 Information from other services, including social networks
As part of our services, we offer you the option of connecting your Socal profile with your
profile on Facebook or Google. We automatically collect selected information about you
from Facebook and Google when you use this option. The information we collect depends
on what information you have made available on Facebook or Google and your privacy
settings for sharing such information. We may collect the following:
- Name and/or username
- Email address
- Profile photo
- Location
- Your social connections
1.3 Your IP address, browser settings and location
When you visit Socal, we register your IP address and browser settings. The IP address is the
numerical address of the device used to visit a webased service or website. Browser settings
can include the type of browser you use, browser language, and time zone. We collect this
information so that we can trace the device used in cases of misuse or unlawful actions in
connection with visits to or use of Socal. Further, we use the IP address to approximate your
location (at city level).
1.4 How we use this information
We may use the information you provide to us to:
- Provide our services to you.
- Identify you as a registered user when you log in to Socal.
- Improve our services.
- Respond to your questions and provide related customer service.
- Engage in various internal business purposes, such as data analysis, audits, fraud
monitoring and prevention, developing new products and services, improving or
modifying the service, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our
promotional campaigns and operating and expanding our business activities.
- Comply with applicable legal requirements and legal process, requests from public
and governmental authorities, relevant industry standards and our internal policies.
- Enforce our Terms & Conditions.
- Customise targeting groups of people for advertising
- We may also use the information in other ways for which we provide specific notice
at the time of collection.
1.5 Communication, Marketing and Advertising
If you come to the Application from an online advertisement, an anonymous identification
number may be passed to the Application. This information cannot be used to gather any
personally identifiable information about you. It will only allow us to track the overall
effectiveness of our online advertising, marketing and banner advertisement campaigns. We
use the data we collect to deliver and personalise our communications with you. For
example, we may contact you by email or other means of electronic communication
(including through the Application) to inform you about new features or services, security or
software updates or invite you to take part in a survey. This processing is necessary to serve
our legitimate interest. We may also share certain aggregated data with other third parties
for general marketing and demographic purposes.
2 Data controller
2.1 Information for which we are the data controller
We are the data controller of the Master Data you enter in connection with your creation of
a profile, which includes but is not limited to your name, password and email address, as
well as the registration of your IP address.
2.2 Information for which you are the data controller
You are the data controller for the content you choose to create and share from Socal, and
for the data disclosed when you connect your Facebook profile with your profile on Socal.
3 Data processor and transfer of personal information outside the EU
We use external companies for maintaining the technical operation of the Service. These
companies are data processors for the personal data for which we are the data controller. By
accepting this Policy, you agree that we may also allow the data for which you are the data
controller to be processed by the same data processors.
4 Deleting your information
For purposes of clarity, you are entitled to terminate your Socal account at any time, at what
point all information connected to your account will either be deleted our anonymised.
However, binding legal requirements may require that we store certain information for
various periods of time. In order to comply with these regulations, we may be unable to
delete information from our databases.
5 Your rights in relation to your personal information
We want you to be in control of how your personal information is used by us. Subject to
local law, you can do this in the following ways:
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you by sending
us a signed request
- You can inform us of any changes to your personal information, or if you want us to
correct any of the personal information we hold about you
- In certain situations, you can ask us to erase, block or restrict the personal
information we hold about you, or object to particular ways in which we are using
your personal information
- In certain situations, you can also ask us to send the personal information you have
given us to a third party.
Where we are using your personal information on the basis of your consent, you are entitled
to withdraw that consent at any time. Moreover, where we process your personal
information based on legitimate interest or the public interest, you have the right to object
at any time to that use of your personal information.
Socal is committed to handle any request, complaint or concern that you may have about
our use of your personal information in a fair and transparent way. If, however, you believe
that we have not been able to assist with your complaint or concern, you may have the right
to file a complaint with the data protection authority in your country (if one exists in your
country) or supervisory authority.
